QUESTIONS ABOUT PAYPAL

Q: WHAT IS PAYPAL?

A: PayPal is an online business allowing payments and money transfers to be made through the Internet. PayPal serves as an electronic alternative to traditional paper methods such as cheques and money orders.

PayPal performs payment processing for online vendors, auction sites, and other commercial users. Customers pay into your PayPal account, and PayPal takes a nominal fee off the top.

Q: DO MY CUSTOMERS NEED A PAYPAL ACCOUNT TO PAY ME WITH PAYPAL?

A: No. YOU as the merchant require a PayPAl account, but your buyers do not. When buyers check out and are taken to PayPal in order to pay, they see a screen where they can:

  1. log in to their PayPal account (if they have one); or
  2. indicate that they would prefer to pay securely by credit card

Q: WHAT FEES DOES PAYPAL CHARGE?

A: It is free for your customers to pay using PayPal. When you get paid into your PayPal Standard Account, Paypal takes a fee of 2.9% plus $0.30 (this is in Canada - please check for your own country).

Q: HOW DO I GET MY MONEY OUT OF MY PAYPAL ACCOUNT?

A: Inside your PayPal account, there is a WITHDRAWAL button. At any time, you can withdraw funds from your PayPal account into your regular bank account. Withdrawals of $150 and up can be done with no additional fee.

Q: IF MY CUSTOMERS ARE PAYING ME DIRECTLY WHEN THEY ORDER, THEN HOW DOES NORWEX GET PAID?

A: When you order from Norwex on behalf of your customer, you will pay Norwex with your own credit card. You are reimbursed when you withdraw the money from your PayPal account.

EG: Order total is $100.00, which the customer pays into your PayPal account. PayPal takes its fee of approximately $3.20, leaving you with $96.80 in your PayPal account. When you order from Norwex, you pay the consultant amount due of $60. When you transfer the $96.80 out of your PayPal account, $60 is owing on your credit card, and the remaining $36.80 is yours!

Q: CAN I TAKE CREDIT CARDS RIGHT ON MY WEBSITE RATHER THAN SEND BUYERS OFF MY SITE TO PAYPAL?

A: Yes. If you want to do that, you require a merchant account; and an SSL certificate.

1. Merchant Account

A merchant account is nothing more than an account with a payment processing company. Your customer pays you through your merchant account, and your payment processing company takes a fee off the top. Different payment processors charge different fees. One example of a merchant account is the one offered by PayPal, called Payments Pro. The monthly fee is about $35-$40 per month, plus a per-transaction fee.

2. SSL certificate

An SSL certificate gives you an https:// payment connection on your existing website so that when customer pays you through your website, their credit card information is encrypted. If you are going to take payment on your website rather than directing buyers to PayPal to pay, you MUST have an SSL certificate. The cost is about $120 per year and is available as an add-on when you buy your website.

NOTE: When you purchase a Norwex Website from Deja's Norwex, you will be given the option to purchase an SSL certificate at checkout. If you are not sure about whether or not to get a merchant account to take payment right on your website, don't buy the SSL. You can always get it later.

Q: HOW CAN I SIGN UP FOR A PAYPAL ACCOUNT?

A: To sign up, go to http://www.paypal.com and click the Sign Up button at the top of the page to go to the quick, one-page sign-up form. Once you've filled out and submitted the form, you are signed up for your PayPal account. NOTE: You need the Premier account. See screenshots:

1. Click "Sign Up"

2. Choose PREMIER and follow PayPal's easy instructions
